All Iowa Shop Hop

June 1-30
All across the great state of Iowa!

Every June, quilters take to the Iowa highways and interstates during the All Iowa Shop Hop. The most die-hard among them will attempt to visit all 87 shops in 30 days! This annual quilting event is coordinated by the team of Jill Reichs of Inspired to Sew in Cedar Rapids and Kevin Carpenter and Leland Turner of Helios Stitches N Stuff in Mt. Vernon all of whom are wonderful supporters of the Iowa Quilt Museum!

Winterset is located in the Southwest Central Region. Besides Des Moines, Winterset is the only town in this region with two shops on the hop – Piece Works Quilt Shop and Winterset Ben Franklin (a quilt shop inside a Ben Franklin store)! We’re all located just steps away from each other and we’re all open seven days a week ready to welcome you!

We hope you’ll hop this way and visit us in June!

Mini Barn Block Painting

Friday, June 7th • 2:00 – 3:30
Saturday, June 8th • 10:00 – 11:30
Sunday, June 9th • 12:00 – 1:30

We’re putting down our needle and thread and picking up a paintbrush to create these charming ‘mini barn blocks’ during Women’s Weekend in Winterset, June 7th through 9th. These 12″ x 12″ blocks are made from birch plywood and the design is routed right into them so it’s basically a paint-by-number. It won’t be big enough to hang on your barn but it they look GREAT on porches. We had several ladies join us last year and we all had a ton of fun so we hope you’ll come this year!

Register online through the Madison County Chamber of Commerce. While there, you’ll also find a ton of other wonderful classes and opportunities that you can attend, so come and spend the whole weekend here in beautiful Winterset, Iowa! Everyone who registers for a class during Women’s Weekend will also receive a complimentary swag bag full of goodies like a reusable water bottle and a Women’s Weekend shopping tote!

Quilts of Valor Salute

On Exhibit through July 7th
Iowa Quilt Museum

Summer brings with it several patriotic holidays and observances: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day. What a great time for our current exhibit here at the Iowa Quilt Museum which is a stunning combination of both antique and newly-made quilt in full patriotic regalia! The exhibit contains seventeen Quilts of Valor which will be awarded to local veterans at the conclusion of the exhibit on July 7th, and twelve quilts from Mary Kerr’s Old Glory collection. These vintage tops were recently quilted by invited longarmers and they are fabulous examples of custom quilting.

Call for Bicycle Quilts

Winterset is an overnight town on this year’s RAGBRAI! An annual bike ride across Iowa. We think it would be pretty awesome if we could make a bicycle themed pop-up exhibit to welcome the 15,000+ visitors to town and to the Iowa Quilt Museum. (Ok, they probably won’t all visit the IQM!) So, if you have a bicycle quilt and would be willing to share it with us for a week or so, we want to hear from you! We know this is a pretty small niche so we could use your help reaching out, too! Share this request with ALL of your quilty friends and let’s see what we can come up with. If you want to get busy and make one for us to exhibit, that works too! We’ve seen some pretty awesome patterns out there.

Thank you for reading Iowa QuiltScape.
