Iowa QuiltScape for May 28, 2020

We are re-opening on Monday, June 1st!

After 74 days of missing you, we’ll be opening our doors again on Monday to welcome visitors to our Man Made exhibit.

Because COVID-19 is still circulating, we will be taking extra precautions to keep our staff, volunteers and guests as safe as possible while they are visiting the Iowa Quilt Museum

Reduced Hours

The IQM gallery will be open to the general public from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Saturday and Noon to 4:00pm on Sundays.

Appointments

Appointments are available at 9:00am and 3:30pm Monday through Saturday for anyone living with a serious chronic medical condition or with an underlying medical condition that increases the susceptibility to serious illness from COVID-19. To schedule an appointment for yourself, please click on the button below. You’ll be redirected to a page called SignUp Gunius.

Contactless Transactions

When you purchase your admission or an item from the gift shop, you’ll be able to do so without having contact with our staff or our cash register. We will not ask for signatures and you will be able to insert your own credit card. We prefer credit transactions for this reason, but will still accept cash or check.

Cleaning & Sanitizing

We will increase our cleaning and sanitizing procedures as directed by the CDC and the EPA. High-frequency touch surfaces such as the counter top and door handles will be sanitized between each guest as often as is possible.

Masks

All of our staff and volunteers will wear masks that cover the mouth and nose while they are in contact with visitors. We strongly encourage visitors to wear masks, but will not require it.

Gallery Procedures

Guests are asked to maintain a distance of six-feet between themselves and other visitors or IQM staff members. Additionally, guests will be asked to follow a one-way path through the gallery.

We’ll be taking a break from our virtual programming next week to focus on our re-opening. But if you’ve missed any of our past four meet-ups, you can still catch them…

Video recordings of all of our previous virtual programs can be found on our Current Exhibit page. Catch anything you miss or watch them over and over again!

If you’re enjoying and appreciating our virtual programming,
please consider making a monetary donation.

Join Curator, Millie Kerhli, this September 19th at 3 PM and learn more about Mary’s journey into the quilting world, her extensive research, and hear about the quilts in our exhibit.

Tickets to the gallery walk are $10 each followed by a reception at 5 PM.

Madison County Airing of the Quilts
Saturday, June 27th (NEW DATE)

Mark your calendars to join us for our re-vamped, social distance-friendly, community-wide colorfest of quilts!

All of our exhibits will be OUTDOORS this year with plenty of space to walk (or drive) around and still maintain the recommended six feet of distance between yourself and others.

Here’s a partial list of our exhibit locations:

  • Madison County Courthouse
  • Cedar Covered Bridge
  • Holliwell Covered Bridge
  • Cutler-Donahoe Covered Bridge
  • Hogback Covered Bridge
  • Winterset City Park Arbor Shelter, South Shelter & Stone Bridge

  • Madison County Historical Complex Grounds
  • Monumental Park
  • Cars & Quilts Show with the Central Iowa Auto Club at Winterset Community Church
  • Pammel Park Coffee Company
  • Quilt Walk through one of Winterset’s historic neighborhoods

You can spend the WHOLE DAY wandering leisurely through Winterset and Madison County viewing quilts, historical landmarks, and all that our lovely community has to offer.

Tickets are just $20* and include admission to the Iowa Quilt Museum where you can view our Man Made exhibit.

Tickets for the 2020 Airing of the Quilts will go on sale Monday, June 13th. Once your ticket is purchased, you’ll be emailed a map containing all of the display locations and details. If you are not able to print a copy of the map, one can be mailed to you by special request.

Online Auction to Benefit the Iowa Quilt Museum

Traditionally, our Airing of the Quilts event concludes with a benefit dinner & auction. This year, we’re going online!

This fundraiser serves as a main source of income for the Iowa Quilt Museum. Our annual budget is supported only in part by admissions and gift shop sales. The remainder comes from private donations and grants and this annual fundraising event.

The online auction will begin on Saturday, June 13th, and conclude on Saturday, June 27th. More details in our next missive!

*Because all of this year’s exhibits are outdoors, we can’t restrict viewing to just those who have a ticket. However, we hope you’ll decide to purchase a ticket in order to support the Iowa Quilt Museum so that we can keep providing quality exhibits and programming that celebrates and honors the tradition of American quiltmaking.
