Iowa QuiltScape for May 21, 2020

MAN MADE [Virtual] Part FOUR

Wednesday • May 27th • 3:30pm CDT
online via Zoom

Join us Wednesday, May 27th, at 3:30pm CDT, for a virtual meet-up with quilting legend Marti Michell.

For over 50 years, Marti Michell has been at the forefront of the quilting industry sharing tools and templates that help people create quilts with more quality and efficiency. Although she doesn’t typically call herself an artist, her desire to make something, and help people make things they could live with forever, led her to create a business that has had an indelible impact on the quilting industry.

In addition to wearing the roles of teacher, lecturer, writer, publisher, and mentor, Marti and her husband Richard have amassed a beautiful collection of antique quilts. One of their quilts, made by Jacob Schaffner in 1890, is currently on loan to the Iowa Quilt Museum for our Man Made exhibit.

It’s not every day that one gets the opportunity to be on a Zoom meeting with Marti Michell so mark your calendars now and join us using the information below.

Madison County Airing of the Quilts
NEW DATE: Saturday, June 27th

The Iowa Quilt Museum Board of Directors has deliberated long and hard about holding our annual Airing of the Quilts this year. We’re pleased to announce that, after making some changes to the format to ensure safety for our visitors and volunteers, we’re going to go ahead with the event!

More details will be announced in the coming weeks but MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW for Saturday, June 27th. We know you’ve been cooped up for a long time and we’re really looking forward to providing an opportunity for quilt lovers (and nature lovers and history lovers, and really, anyone!) to enjoy the beauty of both quilts and Madison County, Iowa, at this year’s all-outdoor Airing of the Quilts!

Re-opening set for Monday, June 1

It’s been a long time since we’ve seen this—visitors in our gallery! Just wait a few more days and we’ll be ready to re-open.

Earlier this week, Iowa’s Governor Reynolds announced that museums may re-open on Friday, May 22nd. While we’re really anxious to welcome you all to our gallery again and show you the fantastic Man Made quilts in person, we need to get a few more things in order first.

We’re currently planning for a June 1st re-open date and will announce next week exactly what procedures we will have in place to make sure that our staff, volunteers, and visitors are all as safe as possible while visiting the Iowa Quilt Museum. We appreciate your patience!
