Iowa QuiltScape for June 26, 2020

2020 Madison County Airing of the Quilts Tomorrow!

If you’re a last-minute decision maker and you’re still considering coming to the Airing of the Quilts tomorrow, we have two words for you…DO IT! Exhibits will be on display from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm so you can spend hours wandering leisurely through Winterset and Madison County viewing quilts, historical landmarks, picturesque scenery and all that our lovely community has to offer.

Tickets can be purchased at the Iowa Quilt Museum for $20 tomorrow and include admission to the IQM where you can view our ‘Man Made‘ exhibit.

We’ll see you in Winterset on Saturday!

Remember to visit our online auction, too!

Even if you won’t be able to join us tomorrow for the Airing of the Quilts, we hope you’ll take some time to peruse our online auction. There are some really terrific items in the catalog and this fundraiser serves as a main source of income for the Iowa Quilt Museum.

The auction offers both antique and contemporary quilts in a variety of styles, as well as some other quilt-related items. Many of the quilts in this year’s auction were made or collected by former Winterset resident, Peggy Freligh [free-lee], and donated for the auction by her husband, Dave. Remember, in addition to making beautiful bed coverings, quilts can also serve as dramatic pieces of art in a home or business.

Man Made is on Display through July 5th

And Kids Visit FREE!

We know this is going to be a unique, and somewhat tough, summer for families with kids at home. We hope that in a small way we can make things a little better by offering an inexpensive family outing!

So grab the kids, or grandkids, and come on over to see our Man Made exhibit between now and July 5th, and the kids will get in free with a paid adult. We’ve also created a fun “Search & Find” activity for kids to do while they’re looking at the quilts.

This is a preview of the Search & Find activity. When you come visit, we’ll have one printed up and ready for you!

What’s Next? Another great exhibit, of course!

Out of Control: Quilts that Break the Rules
July 7 through October 4
Curated by Barbara Brakman & Deb Rowden

Wild quilts from the collections of Barbara Brackman & Deb Rowden, two Kansas collectors with a special affinity for the “odd,” will populate this exhibit. The patterns, color choices, designs, and even the workmanship will have us wondering, “What was she thinking?”
