Iowa QuiltScape for August 4th, 2019

Congratulations to Marianne Fons & Liz Porter!

Earlier this month, Marianne Fons & Liz Porter were inducted into The Quilters Hall of Fame. We’re so proud of them and the fact that they are being honored for their immeasurable impact on the quilting world! Their quilts will be on display at The Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, Indiana, through September 21st.

Later this year, we will honor them our own way, with an exhibit of their quilts right here in their hometown. “A Liz & Marianne Homecoming” will open at the Iowa Quilt Museum on October 1st and remain on exhibit through January 5th. Make plans to come see this exhibit as it will, no doubt, be wonderful!

Lori Triplett talks about Chintz

Iowa Illinois Study Group
August 9th and 10th in Kalona

The Iowa Illinois Quilt Study group draws quilt enthusiasts from across the midwest and beyond, to share in learning about quilts. Next Friday and Saturday, they will host Lori Triplett as featured speaker for their annual August meeting at the Kalona Historic Village. Lori, who is business manager for Quilt and Textile Collections, has successfully combined a variety of passions including research, writing, and performing into the quilt world. At Friday afternoon’s workshop, Lori will present on Chintz, Columns and Calico. Saturday’s program will be based on Chintz Birds. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own Chintz quilts or their latest projects for the show and share. There will also be a silent auction (which happens every year at the group’s August meeting) to raise money for the speakers fund. Saturday’s session also includes admission to the Historical Village and Quilt Museums and a luncheon.

Friday’s session will take place from 3:00 – 6:00pm and registration is $35. Saturday’s session is from 9:00am – 2:30pm and registration fee is $30. For more information contact lifesastitchholland@yahoo.com.

    Congratulations to Liz and Marianne!!

I’m curious about the quilt shown below the title, “Lori Triplett talks about Chintz.” A dear friend shared a book with me long ago, which I think pictured that quilt on the front. I keep coming up with the words “A Stitch in Time” in my mind. Could that be the same quilt, and is that a book title? I’m just curious about it because I later purchased the book my friend had shared, and loaned it out to a friend. I haven’t seen it since! I am a former Iowan, and always visit Winterset when I’m close enough. Also, my quilt guild stopped in your beautiful city on a quilt retreat a few years back. Thank you!

Gloria, I’m sorry but we don’t have any information about this picture. It was shared with us for the purposes of promoting this event but we don’t know the origin of the picture.
