Support the new Iowa Quilt Museum by attending our first LIVE QUILT AUCTION on October 10th!

The fundraising phase of the new Iowa Quilt Museum, set to open next May, will be in high gear during the 46th Annual Covered Bridge Festival in Winterset. Festival-goers can check out the future museum’s location, the restored JC Penney building, on the south side of the town square over the weekend. Fifteen beautiful quilts, each with a local connection, will be auctioned from the Mel Penrod stage on the south side of the Courthouse at 3:00 Saturday afternoon, October 10th, with all proceeds going toward the purchase and improvements for the museum building. The auction follows the 2 p.m. performance by the cast of the Broadway musical The Bridges of Madison County.

Don’t miss this chance to be part of the new museum’s history!

Find full details on each of these beautiful quilts on our Quilt Auction page.

Everyone is invited to view the quilts up for auction in the museum building, free of charge, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday and from 9:00 am until 2:00 pm on Saturday. At 2:00 pm, the quilts come down from display to be transported over to the Courthouse steps for local auctioneer Chuck Garrison to get the bidding started. Nationally-known quilter Marianne Fons, host of “Fons & Porter’s Love of Quilting” nationwide on public television, will assist Garrison with details about the auction quilts as each one is held up for bidding.

All fifteen quilts were made and donated by local quilters or quilters with a local connection. Many have appeared in national publications. They range in size from a large wall quilt to sofa-sized quilts, to bed quilts, including one for a king size bed.
